A Better Way to Support Culture, Sports and Parks in Saskatchewan

With an influx of immigration, Saskatchewan has become more culturally diverse than at any other point in our province’s history. We as Liberals embrace the cultural differences from all ethnic communities and therefore believe government should support these communities in sharing their culture with the citizens of Saskatchewan.

With an influx of immigration, Saskatchewan has become more culturally diverse than at any other point in our province’s history. We as Liberals embrace the cultural differences from all ethnic communities and therefore believe government should support these communities in sharing their culture with the citizens of Saskatchewan.

One way the government can support cultural groups is to provide consistent funding to be used in setting up pavilions in communities throughout the province. In supporting cultural events and programs, we not only help provide support for newcomers, we also create an opportunity for groups to educate the public about the many different cultures that make up our growing communities. Additionally, the economic spinoffs from such support will result in increased local tourism, and allow cultural associations to raise additional funds on their own through volunteers selling merchandise, food, and beverages at their pavilions.

Entrenched in Saskatchewan culture is our love of the outdoors. As Liberals we can ensure that adequate funding is provided for our provincial parks and campgrounds to offer safe, clean, and modern accommodations to all park guests.

There is nothing more unifying in Saskatchewan then our beloved Saskatchewan Roughriders. The green and white have provided the citizens of Saskatchewan many opportunities to come together and share in their success. Dreams of being that next Roughrider, gold medalist, or NHL all-star lie in the hearts of kids in every corner of the province. As Liberals, we must ensure stable funding be provided to amateur sports organizations to make sure those dreams stay alive, and to maintain healthy and active communities.

In order to better serve Saskatchewan citizens in each of these important and distinct areas, a Saskatchewan Liberal government would re-organize the government’s Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport into separate Ministries for Culture and Arts, Youth and Sports, and Parks and Tourism.

Furthermore, Saskatchewan Liberals would provide stable and reliable funding for cultural, arts, and sports groups in the province to reduce their current reliance on funding from lottery gaming revenues.
