Where we go from here

It is a time to take stock. It is a time to ponder our role.

Political parties do not exist to serve themselves.
Political parties exist to serve the public.

Some Republicans in the U.S. want to defeat President Obama so badly that they are hoping that his policies fail.
If Obama's policies fail, the country suffers.
Yet some Republicans want Obama to fail.
They would prefer to get elected even if it requires the country to do poorly.
That is tantamount to cheering against your own country.

Something is very wrong with this picture.

We must want our province to succeed even if the government of the day (not us) gets the credit for it.

But we do have a very important role to play.

Governments are made up of humans and unfortunately humans have weaknesses.
Over time governments can become arrogant, insensitive, greedy, and get out of touch.
Over time it will happen. It always does.
The people will notice.
The people will replace the government.

You seldom defeat a government.
They usually defeat themselves.
When that time comes we must be in a position to take up the responsibility of governing.

Politically speaking we are in a new age.
Modern communication has changed the old ways of doing politics.
We need to become a new age party.

We should be a party of volunteers. Nobody gets a salary.
We don't need an office. Our computers can be our headquarters. We will not have to pay rent.

We can limit our costs to the bare essentials.

Our debt is minimal.
It will be non existent in a few months.
We have a healthy income stream from our membership.

We need to maintain and increase our membership base.
We need to maintain and increase our donor base.
Most dollars that come in can go into a war chest.

With modern communications and social networking, we can be the forum where members and non-members can discuss and debate the issues of the day.
When a sizable number agree on a direction they want to take this province, the Saskatchewan Liberal Party can be the vehicle to accomplish our policy goals.

We are very fortunate to have many young, intelligent, motivated, and talented people who are now the driving force within the party.
The future of the party and of Saskatchewan is theirs.
The old way of doing politics will not work tomorrow.
This is a new age.
We are a new age party.
Yesterday we did not know what viral meant.
Tomorrow it will be us.

We serve by being ready to serve!

I ask that you be sure you have a membership.

A small contribution would also be helpful.
Donations are still eligible for the tax credit.
